I have over a decade of tutoring experience with specialization in high school mathematics, SAT and ACT prep, and the college application and preparation process. I taught in the highest performing high school in North Carolina and scored in the top quartile of all teachers in the state every year. My classroom students consistently performed at or above grade level regardless of their predicted results. At a classroom level, I have taught Precalculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Common Core Math 1, 2, and 3, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and AP Statistics. My current work is as an Instructional Coach working to improve instructional outcomes with all high school math teachers in Salem Public Schools. I have been a formal private tutor since 2005 and was employed from 2011 to 2012 as a Math Tutor at the UNC Hospital School. I have over 1500 hours of direct service experience tutoring at all grade levels. I have worked both in classrooms and one-on-one with a large variety of students, including students qualifying as Academically/Intellectually Gifted, English Language Learners, Students with Disabilities, and students with severe medical conditions. My special interests are in project-based learning, sustainability education in public schools, and critical pedagogy of marginalized students. I am very versatile in adjusting to individual student needs and responding to learning habits and preferences. Previous students have experienced improved confidence in skills, higher test scores, greater understanding of subject matter, and increased enjoyment in mathematics learning. My teaching is student-centered and co-constructed with student input. Before I cover content, I first come to understand the student's background, skills and knowledge, and needs for optimal learning so that I can create a learning experience that is best suited for the individual. I teach mathematics as a body of knowledge that is constructed with the student, where students come to understand the content deeply and comfortably move between conceptual understanding, practical application, and procedural fluency. As a tutor for SAT or ACT, I teach test-taking skills as a game to be won, and a systematic approach for success.

I write creatively and reflectively, play classical piano, and avidly seek out new music for leisure listening. At any point of a day, I enjoy socializing, reading, free yoga classes, hot oolong tea, exotic foods, logistics planning, and cute animals (including small humans).
